Three Helpful Modifications
- by Admin
With family members getting older we need to start paying attention to their living environment. Their home is the place that they tend to spend most of their time, so we need to make sure it is as safe as it can possibly be for them. There are three modifications that can become very helpful.
- Lighting: The light in a loved one’s home can make a big difference. You want them to have good lighting so the risk for potential slips, trips, and falls is reduced. During the day make sure that the blinds are open, or the curtains are to help bring in as much natural lighting as possible. During the evening hours make sure to leave a nightlight in areas that will receive traffic.
- Safety First: Make sure every room in your loved one’s home has a working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. This will help inform your loved one if something goes wrong.
- The Bathroom: The bathroom is one of the most dangerous places for our loved ones when they get older. This means extra precautions are needed when it comes to the bathroom. Sturdy waterproof seats are great, they can be in the bathtub or shower. This gives you loved one an option to sit down if needed. Adjustable hand-held showerhead to assist with bathing is another good thing to have.
